The Throat Chakra, or Vishuddha, is the centre of communication and self-expression.Located in the throat, it’s where inner truth takes shape through voice, creativity, and resonance. This chakra helps us express who we truly are. Not just through words, but through authenticity, art, and the energy we send into the world.

When balanced, the Throat Chakra supports clear, confident communication and aligned self-expression. When imbalanced, we may struggle to speak up, feel misunderstood, or overcompensate by talking excessively.

💭 Bloom & Grow Prompt

What truth within me is ready to be voiced? What would it feel like to express it freely?

💭 My Bloom & Grow Reflection

When I was a girl, I was frightened to speak. I hardly talked to anyone outside of my parents, brother, and grandparents. Even at school, I was the shyest, most silent girl. Too scared to ask to use the washroom, so I’d hold it in until I couldn’t anymore. Holding it all, really. My needs, my voice, the truth that asking for anything has always felt dangerous.

When I became a Mum at seventeen, I had to learn to have a voice for my children. How could I do this when I wasn’t even able to speak up for myself? I struggled so much.

In my thirties, I swung the other way: talking too much, oversharing, over explaining, interrupting, pleading my case until the birds came home. Balance with my throat chakra remained elusive.

But I sing. I hum. I found a love for kirtan during a spiritual quest back in 2017. Certain pranayama breathing practices have also helped me immensely. Of course, awareness is also key. Regular check-ins and self-compassion make all the difference.

To finally answer the question:

  • I am worthy of being heard. By friends, family, teachers, medical professionals, managers, police, therapists. My voice matters.

  • I release anger I held from all the times I wasn’t heard, from all the years I was made to feel small or insignificant by others.

To express this freely feels flowing and light, like a river running right into me, gently clearing the debris that has built up over the years and held me back. My shoulders drop from my ears, making space for my neck to expand into a scarf of blooms, dissolving stiffness and rigidity that seeped in over decades. Even when it still feels scary to speak up, ask for what I need, or be assertive, I can anchor myself in the subtle sensations of courage. The lift in my chest, the opening of my throat, the grounding of my shoulders. These gentle whispers of bravery remind me that even when fear is present, my voice is here, ready to bloom.
